The Creative Force Behind Country Home: Our Editors

Carol Sheehan -Editor-in-Chief

Country Home magazine named Carol Sheehan its Editor-in-Chief in July 1997. A nationally-known and respected lifestyle editor, Sheehan was the founding editor of Countryside magazine from 1989 to 1991. Before that, she was the Editor- in-Chief of the following magazines: Decorating Remodeling, Dallas-Fort Worth Home & Garden and Houston Home & Garden.

Sheehan and Country Home magazine's Creative Director, Mary Emmerling, have published two books as part of the Country Home franchise: Country Home New Country Style (2001) and Country Home Quick Country Decorating (2000). Sheehan has also authored several books in the sporting and country genres and has written the text for eight of Mary Emmerling's country style books, including New Country Collecting (1996). In November 2004, Sheehan's new book, The Gardener's Life published by Clarkson N.Potter, will be hitting bookstores across the country.


Mary Emmerling - Creative Director

Since 1997, Mary Emmerling has acted as Country Home magazine's Creative Director. She is one of the nation's most acclaimed American Country designers and has worked as a decorating editor for nearly 30 years.

In 1992, Mary Emmerling launched Mary Emmerling's Country magazine and was Editor-in-Chief through 1995.Emmerling began her publishing career as a decorating editor at Mademoiselle and later at House Beautiful.

In addition to the two books co-authored with Carol Sheehan (see above), Emmerling has published several solo projects. She published her first book, American Country, in 1980 and has since authored an additional 19 titles under the Clarkson Potter imprint. Notably these include Mary Emmerling's Smart Decorating (1999)and Mary Emmerling's Romantic Country, released early 2004.
